Formation Stages

ASPIRANCY

It is a period where the applicant is introduced to the basic of the Dominican Sisters’ life and is screened for admission to the Congregation.

It is an initial formation period of observation, reflection, and clarification of the candidate’s motives, aptitudes and values in the light of the Gospel. The candidate is helped to form an accurate judgment of her vocation and to prepare her for a change from secular life to a life proper for entrance into novitiate. Postulancy is a one-year and beyond period of formation.

POSTULANCY

NOVIATE

The novitiate is a period of probation during which the novices carefully study themselves and their vocation to the Dominican life, initiate themselves in the apostolic work of our Congregation as well as in the spirit of unity, having only one heart and mind in God, to implement the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty and obedience of which they will later make profession. This stage of formation is consist of two years; the first year of which is the canonical novitiate and the second year is exposure to the ministries of the congregation.

JUNIORATE/TEMPORATY PROFESSION

Temporary profession is the period where a Sister prepares for final profession by integrating all aspects of the call to Dominican life through her regular observance of the evangelical counsels, our Rules and Constitutions. These years of spiritual, doctrinal, apostolic and professional instructions are focused on broading and stabilizing the formation. The young religious is accompanied towards the attainment of maturity required to assume a definite commitment as a consecrated person.

PERPETUAL PROFESSION

A lifetime of ongoing and holistic formation specially to intensify the spiritual growth throughout consecrated and religious life. In perpetual profession, by the vow of obedience the Sister consummates the renunciation of herself along with the vows of religious chastity and poverty offering herself to God in perfect sacrifice.
